30th Founders Day Celebration.

A moment of pride, honour, respect and emotions. What more to say. An overwhelmed joy in the faces of the leader and the disciples as we call ourselves proudly,the Saveethanian effect was running in everybody's soul and the auditorium was vibrant with the heat produced. 

5 lifetime achievement awards, 1 young achiever award, student scholarship for toppers worth 1 crore, award for publications worth another crore what else can an university do to motivate and uplift our students and faculty.

Every institution under the University had an A-V to showcase their achievement for the academic year 2016-2017. The icing was the video on the Journey of our honourable Chancellor as an educationist.

Edify- Department of Anatomy

Wow! its so refreshing to have an edify after almost 4 weeks. Department of Anatomy rocked as usual. They presented two teaching videos and it was really illustrative. Their in class activity was highly interactive and it cannot mislead anybodies understanding. Dr. Yuvraj Babu received punctuality award and Dr. Karthik Ganesh received workaholic award. They concluded their event with their future plans.

Annual Award Ceremony - Insignia 2017

Insignia, a distinguished recognition given by an organisation. Here we go with 270 awards for students and faculty Saveetha Dental College. An once in a year event and  the most awaited event, ANNUAL AWARD CEREMONY- INSIGNIA 2017.  

What more can be done by an institution to encourage , motivate and celebrate their  students and faculty. Rome was not build in a day and this day is not for this single day again. This institution has proved it again how it values its own people.

Award were given to students across all the years of under graduation,  post graduation, dental technicians , faculties and non teaching staffs. Cultural performance by each batch of students proved their multifaceted personality. The ceremony came to an end with a gala dinner.

Pedodontics for general Practitioners

The first edition of SHARP- Saveetha’s Headway on Advanced Revision in Paediatric Dentistry was conducted by the Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry. It's a national CDE program for general practitioners. Dr.Hemalatha, Professor and Head of Department of Pedodontics, SRM Dental College, Ramapuram, presided over the function. The program started with the lighting of kuthuvilakkuby the Dean, Dr.N.D.Jayakumar and the chief guest. Dr. Deepa Gurunathan, delivered the welcome address and Dr.EMG.Subramanian the vote of thanks.

Dr.Aruna Mohan B.D.S, M.Dent.Sc gave a lecture on Interceptive Orthodontics. She highlighted on the importance of treating children with malocclusion at right age. Next lecture, Localisation of Supernumerary Teeth by Dr.Srikanthkumar Mallineni B.D.S, M.D.S (Hong Kong) described the various modalities of locating and removal of supernumerary teeth. Dr.Victor Samuel, Reader, SRM Kaatangulathur Dental College spoke about the importance of treating very young children under general anaesthesia. Protocols to be followed and different centres with theater setups were also discussed. Dr.Shankar, Reader from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and Dr.Veera Kishorekumar Reddy gave a detailed insight about Traumatic Injuries and Rotary Endodontics respectively.

E-poster competition was conducted and students from various colleges including one from Andhra Pradesh actively participated and presented. Awards for the winners were given away by the Director of Academics, Saveetha Dental College in the Valedictory function at 4pm.

3D’s Diagnose/Design/Develop

The Department of orthodontics & Cleft & craniofacial institute had organized a one-day CDE program on 3D imaging, its recent advances & its application in Craniofacial region. The CDE program had 5 guest lectures from eminent speakers from various specialties including an international speaker Prof Dr Peter Mossey. 

The program started with the Inauguration ceremony which was presided over by Our Dean Prof Dr N.D. Jayakumar, Prof Dr Shanthasundari (HOD of Dept Of Orthodontics), Prof Dr Muthusekar (HOD of Oral Surgery) with Prof Dr Peter Mossey as our Guest of Honour. Prof Dr Shanthasundari gave the welcome address, then the guest of honour Prof Dr Peter Mossey addressed the gathering & gave a brief speech. Dr Arvind Sivakumar from the Cleft & Craniofacial Institute delivered vote of thanks. Finally the inauguration ended with our national anthem. 

Dr Mogit Gupta gave an informative lecture on “The W factor in 3D imaging of craniofacial deformities”. Prof Dr Peter Mossey shared his experience in “The role & development of 3D imaging in Craniofacial Research”. Prof Dr Deepa gave an interesting lecture on “Reveal the defect with 3D imaging”. Prof Dr Vikraman shared his vast experience with “3D simulation in Craniofacial Surgery. Post Lunch Dr John Nesan showed us some insight into the latest & advanced “Applications of 3D printing in Craniofacial region”.

The program was well attended by various faculties from different specialities including, Orthodontists, Oral & maxillofacial surgeons, Pedodontists & Oral medicine & Radiology post graduates & faculties.

Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice- SNELSCON

Saveetha National Emergency Life Support Conference ,2017, was conducted on oct 5th and 6th. The registration number was restricted to 250 delegates to ensure a quality training to all who registered.15 speakers from the medical and dental fraternity gave lectures and shared their knowledge and experience with the delegates. The two day program included intensive lectures and 20 hands on station.The hands-on station covered a range of emergency procedures like CPR, IV line, Central venous access, use of defibrillator, emergency drugs,surgical airway,etc. Each station had 15 participants which enabledindividual hands-on participation rather than just observing the procedures.The stations were handled by qualified medical trainers.After the hands-on, the delegates also participated in a CPR challenge and the winner was awarded. There was also an e-poster competition where the posters were judged and the best poster was awarded. The feedback from all attendees confirm that the event was a grand success and the delegates had a productive experience.

Ayutha Pooja Celebration

Ayusha Pooja Celebration 2017

Ayudha Pooja is an integral part of the Navaratri festival (festival of triumph), a festival which is traditionally celebrated in India. It is also called "Astra Puja", the synonym for Ayudha Puja. In simple terms, it means “Worship of Instruments”. The Puja is considered a meaningful custom, which focuses specific attention to one’s profession and its related tools and connotes that a divine force is working behind it to perform well and for getting the proper reward.

To inculcate tradition and emphasise the importance of Ayusha Pooja, an elaborate pooja is organised every year in our college.

Welcome Party:SU-Swagat

Su-Swagat, is a welcome party to the new students. Its an event where there get to interact with there immediate seniors and super seniors. Students are divided into groups. Each group has few students from there seniors and super seniors. This helps students to have a healthy relationship and avoid ragging. As already known ours is a anti-ragging campus and this introduction among students help them be friendly with each other. It runs for two days and students have lot of games, debates and group activity. This also helps them in learning their subjects better as they won't have any hesitation to ask and discuss with their seniors.

White coat Ceremony

White is a symbol of purity and equality. “White Coat Ceremony” is a special day for all medical professionals. It started with a brief on how the system runs by Dr. Mimansa Bhoj. Followed by that spoke honourable Founder, Chancellor Dr.N.M. Veeraiyan, Saveetha University spoke on how responsible they should be as doctors. The guest of honour today was Dr.C.S.Prasad, a renowned practitioner, academician and researcher. Professor of Periodontics, Former Principal Government Dental College, Chennai and Sri Ramachandra Dental College gave an inspirational speech to the students.He showers his love on students and humane towards his patients. Sir, has really touched many lives today. Then spoke the Dynamic Director of academics who motivated the students to work hard. Then white coats were distributed to the students and advisor. Dr. Rajagopal administered the hippocratic oath to the students. Dean Dr. N.D.Jayakumar gave the vote of thanks. The event came to an end with National anthem and refreshments for the students and the parents. 

The icing of the day is Dr.C.S.Prasad joined us as an adjunct faculty.

Full Mouth Rehabilitation under General Anaesthesia

In association with 39th ISPPD Conference- Pedosphere held in Chennai, Department of Pedodontics,Saveetha Dental College waselected to conduct a pre- conference course on “Full Mouth Rehabilitation under General Anaesthesia(GA)” by Dr.Deepa Gurunathan and Dr. Navaneetha Krishnan.  Twenty one delegates from across the country actively participated in the first ever hands on workshop on full mouth rehabilitation under general anaesthesia. Thenumber of participants was limited to just over 20 so as to have zenith contemplationand practical experience which was greatly appreciated by the participants. Interactive lectures were delivered by the team covering the various aspects including need for general anaesthesia,anaesthetic procedures and their complications. A simulation of the Saveetha Dental College’s operation theatre complex and the protocol to be followedwas shown to the delegates via a video before entering the theatre,which made them to feel at ease. Four children were taken up for full mouth rehabilitation under general anaesthesia on a single day .Theattendees were divided into 4 small groups to have the best hands on training in the procedures. At the end of the course,all delegates irrespective of their seniority and their previous experience were overwhelminglysatisfied with the clinical knowledge and confidence gained in the pre conference course to treat children under GA .In addition this course has been rated as the best preconfernce course of the 39 th ISPPD conference

India, the cradle of ancient civilization that boasted of educational hubs like Nalanda University is once again all set to repeat the history in the field of education. Times have changed when students were longing to get trained abroad, to the times that have now made the foreigners turn their heads towards us. The field of dentistry in India is growing leaps and bounds and is at par with western world or may be even more.

With the availability of all the modern technologies and educational resources, the avenues for professional accreditation are on pace with international standards. The increase in awareness about dental health that has improved the availability of patients willing to get advanced dental treatments like implants, is all to make India the future hub of dental training programs.

Pioneering and taking advantage of this situation, Saveetha Dental College has introduced intensive clinical programs for Australian dental graduates on dental implants. About 35 dental graduates were successfully trained and certified so far. We are proud to inform that this is the third consecutive year this event had happened.

Edify- Department of Biochemistry, Fourth Cycle

Department of Biochemistry initiated the 4th edition of Edify on 24th August 2017, The Edify began with a big bang teaser followed by a video highlighting the departmental activities for the academic year 2016 – 2017. Awesome educational videos on Inborn errors of metabolism and replication was exclusively made by our faculty and presented in the Edify. 

The concept of Dejavu was visualized to audience. I BDS students from SDC participated and won prizes in State level prize exam in Biochemistry held at SRM Dental College. Audience were enthralled by a special video made by the prize winners along with other students about the importance and significance of flipped classes and ibooks.

Create the Barrier

SYNOPSIS ON SYMPOSIUM AND WORKSHOP – “CREATE THE BARRIER” REGENERATION AND APEXIFICATION USING BIOMIMETIC MATERIALS

The Department of Paediatric and Preventive dentistry, Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals has proudly show cased a 2 day symposium and workshop program on “CREATE THE BARRIER”. It highlightedand recent advances in endodontics on 31st August & 1st September 2017.The CDE programme was approved by the Tamil Nadu state dental council, accredited with 9 CDE credit points. The scientific lectures, live demonstration on patients and hands-on were truly enriched and mesmerizing which provided all our young budding pedodontists a keen insight into the topics. The first day of the symposium was marked by the lectures of eminent speakers . Dr. Deepa Gurunathan gave an introductory talk about Tissue engineering which paved the way for easy understanding of regeneration. Talk by Dr.Jai Ganesh on Stem cells was interesting based on multiple choice questions and making the audience aware of the concept from Known to Unknown. Dr.M.S Nivedhitha enlightened on Scaffolds used in regeneration of pulp . Dr.Geomani discussed the various practical issues involved in the usage of Platelet Rich Plasma for reggeneration which was very much informative to avoid medico legal cases. Followed by the lecture was the live demonstration on patient using PRF and hands on by all the participants using PRF.  Participants' were thrilled and excited to view a live demonstration of a tooth treated by regeneration. In addition, each participant were given PRF to be handled and placed in extracted tooth guided by Dr.G.Deepa and Dr. Madhusudhan Vasantharajan which has given them the confidence to treat a patient. The second day of the program sphere headedby Dr. Madhusudhan Vasantharajangave an in-detailed explanation of Apexification using biomemietic materials . Dr. Sihivahanan's explanation on recent trends scope of research, approach of exam questions on regeneration provided our participants a glimpse of future trends and ability to apply the obtained knowledge. Shortly thereafter it was followed by live demonstration by Dr. Madhusudhan Vasantharajanon patient using MTA .Dr.G.Deepa and Dr. Madhusudhan Vasantharajan played a vital roleto help the students handle the biomimetic materials with ease. At the end of the symposium the participants were confident to perform regeneration and apexification using biomimetic materials and assured to treat patients using the techniques learnt.

Edify- Conclusion

That was a visual treat with enlightenment for the students. All 9 specialities of dentistry presented their department progress in last three months along with their future plans for next three months. Each department proved no less to be the other. 9 departments, 27 teaching videos, 500 students, 172 faculty its all about their pride and dreams together. Proved to a passionate event by all the faculty. Waiting to do more in the forthcoming edify meet...

Crowning the Brownie

Department of Pedodontics, Saveetha dental college, conducted a Lecture and Hands on course program onstainless steel crowns (SSC) for the general clinical practioners and interns on 28/07/2017. Dr.Sheeja Vargeese was the guest of honour. The program consisted of three lectures, a demonstration and hands on. Dr.Sujatha S elaborated on the indications, contraindications and the clinical procedure.  Dr.EMG Subramanian shared his clinical experience on the difficult clinical situations and how a SSC can be modified in those situations. Dr.Kandasamy highlighted the where and where not an anterior stainless steel crown can be placed. Followed by a demonstration by Dr.Sujatha S. The hands-on was conducted for the participants by the speakers. Where the tooth preparation, crown selection, crown adaptation and cementation was taught and the participants learnt through practicing itimmediately on a typhodont model.

Alumni Meet Organised by 1992 batch

Alumni of 1992 batch  celebrated their reunion on 16th Jul 2017 at Saveetha Dental College. It also, marks the Silver Jubilee Celebration of 1992 batch.

Dr.N.M.Veeraiyan, Founder-Chancellor, Saveetha University, presided over the function.  

    The alumni expressed their gratitude to their teachers by felicitating them. They shared their golden memories in the institution. The teachers felt over-whelmed and enjoyed the function. The teachers also expressed their memories of interaction with 1992 batch. Alumni belonging to various batches shared their evergreen moments with 1992 Batch.

    The function reached the melting point when the representatives from each batch emotionally expressed their lifestyle and relationship with the institution during their study period.

 Their heart skipped a beat, when they witnessed the infra-structure facilities existing currently in our institution. 

   They proudly announced their contribution of various study models by the way of museum worth more than a lakh. Also, they expressed their environmental consciousness by planting 100 saplings in the campus of the Institution.

   Not only, their physical bodies got refreshed but also their inner being refreshed so much after visiting their “Temple of Learning”.

Edify- DRC BRULAC

The Department of BRULAC & DRC has initiated their first EDIFY on 20.07.2017 with the Welcome note delivered by Dr. P. Gopinath, Controller of Research (UG). He outlined the gathering about the objective of establishing “BRULAC & DRC” which was formed to meet different thrust areas of research under one roof as Common Facility for Research and Development. The Department has projected the video on the different facilities available at BRULAC & DRC. Dr. M. Karthik Ganesh and Mr. N. Ashok Vardhan were highlighting the important achievements of the Department. The research video has underscored the impact of using laboratory animals in medical research as well as various in-vitro research techniques such as microbial analysis and PCR etc. The feedbacks collected from students and staffs were also projected as review video followed by Dr. D. Ezhilarasan has offered the gratitude on behalf of entire Department.  Dr. Deepak Nallaswamy, The Director of Academics has well commended and appreciated their work and motivated them to achieve more goals in future endeavors.

Edify-Implantology

Department of implantology is one of the steady departments in the institution. They easily place thousands of implants a year with a success rate of 99%. Dr. Preetham presented two teaching videos. Dr. Thiyaneswaran spoke on departments growth and future plans. Dr.Subhashree a student turned faculty of our institution shared here experience as a faculty.
