The International Association for Dental Research with its headquarters in Alexandria Va USA is an organization with nearly 11,000 members worldwide. Its mission are,

Through the division and sections, it establishes and support programs and the APR division synchronizes with this goal. In its mission to promote oral goal health research and the IADR activities, the APR division along with the host Saveetha Dental College, a Premier and a pioneer institution which has year marked its presence in the IADR scenario is conducting a symposium at Saveetha dental college, Chennai, India. This symposium would be focusing on three major thrust areas of dental research which require deliberations from experts in this field.

A structured abstract not more than 150 words should be submitted for e-posters.

SYMPOSIUM1: DENTAL RESEARCH AS A CAREER OPTION – PROMOTION AND PRIORITIES
Topic: Advanced Diagnostic Equipments in Dental Research - Options and Priorities
He is a renowned scientist who has traversed through different disciplines such as laser technology, optoelectronics, atmospheric sciences, biophotonics, remote sensing and biomedicine, integrating the interaction of light with matter and using it for minimally or non-invasive detection of vegetation/coral stress, disease diagnostics and therapeutics. He has been working on early detection of oral and cervical cancers using point monitoring and multispectral imaging techniques. Core focus is on Development and translation of optical spectroscopy and imaging technologies from bedside to bench-top for patient care, clinical and biological studies. He has been the recipient of numerous awards includingNovartis Oration Award (ICMR), Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award (IIFS), DAAD Fellowship Award (GAES), and Marie Curie Award (EU). Member of SPIE (USA), India Laser Association, Optical Society of India, and Senior Fellow of HNODS (UK).
Topic: Promoting Dental Research as Career
Dr. Pugazendhi, alumini of Saveetha Dental College, went to Norway for his masters in oral sciences, where he joined the laboratory of Prof. Donald Gullberg. After his masters, he went to University of Toronto for a short term post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Prof. Christopher McCulloch (Periodontologist). He is currently doing his PhD under Prof. Donald Gullberg, University of Bergen, Norway and he his expected to complete PhD in May 2017. Gullberg's lab discovered integrin alpha 11, which is a fibrillar collagen receptor, important for incisor eruption in mice, wound healing, fibrosis and tumor progression. His master and PhD research projects are mainly devoted to understand the signaling function of integrin alpha 11 and how it contributes to fibroblast functions. In the future, he would like to do cell biology-based dental research, to understand the cellular mechanisms underlying the disease processes in dental tissues.

Dr. T. V Narayan graduated with distinction from M.R. Ambedkar Dental College in 1992 andwas the Gold medal winner in BDS with the highest aggregate in Bangalore University. He did his post-graduation in Oral Pathology from Nair Hospital Dental College, Mumbai in 1996. He is trained in Implant Dentistry at Berlin, Seoula and DGI (Germany) course. He is Fellow and Diplomate of the prestigious International Congress of Oral Implantologists. He is also Founder Director of the International Team for Implantology’s (ITI) study club in Bangalore where he is also a certified speaker.He has been a distinguished speaker at national and international conferences on Implantology. He is also the key opinion leader for 3MESPE, Novabone products. His focus has remained on the practice on implants, Esthetic Dentistry and Full mouth rehabilitation.
Topic: Developing Dental Research- An Institutional Perspective
Dr.Deepak Nallasamy graduated as a best outgoing student in under graduation.He has topped in various subjects in this under graduation and post graduation.He published a textbook for undergraduates in 2001. Director of Saveetha Academy of Implant Dentistry which has placed 4000 implants with a success rate of 99.67%.He did his implant course in Canada and also holds 2 potency for implant dentistry in 2005. He is an academician who has introduced various teaching methodologies like CABLE( Critical Appraisal based learning), MILA( Multiple Integrated Learning Algorithm). He also introduced iPad based histopathological tracing for pedagogy, Castle top learning, flipped classes in Ug's, Cochrane and Systematic review for Pg's. He had designed 93 RCT at SDC. He spear headed 136 papers and posters to IADR Korea, Vetted and edited over 110 iBooks chapters in Basic Science subjects. Designed ABMS workshop for postgraduates.He is the Member of Academic Council and Research Advisory board, Planning and Monitoring Committee and Board of Management at Saveetha University.

Topic:Dental Research - Building Infrastructure - Role of private institution
The ENABLE BioLabs (EBL) was established by Arvind Ramanathan on a fine summer morning in the South Indian city of Chennai in 2010. Subsequent to his graduation, Arvind worked as a research scientist at RIKEN Brain Science Institute (BSI) in Japan and DUKE-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore. Arvind returned back to India in the autumn of 2010 to foster genomic medicine at EBL.He has been working on developing bioinformatic tools to analyze human genome for disease associated genes, also todiscover genes that cause human diseases with the aid of the bioinformatic tool, and confirm them in human patient samples with discovery of high confident drug targets for pharmaceutical industries.

Dr Arathi.G has graduated from Government Dental College,Bangalore in the year 1988 and completed her Masters Degree from AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore in 1992. She has been actively involved in ug and post graduate teachingat the Faculty of dental Sciences ,SRU since 2000. She has guided over 50 postgraduate students.She has 22publications in peer reviewed journals to her creditand has delivered manyguest lectures at various forums. She has contributed tochapters in textbooksof Dental materials and Endodontics.

Dr. Chandrashekar Janakiram joined the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Amrita in November 2004. He received his Ph. D. in Community Dentistry from Amrita University in 2012. He completed his graduation from Bangalore University and postgraduation from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.Dr. Chandrashekar was awarded first rank for Masters Program in Dental Public Health in the specialty of community dentistry (M. D. S.) from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore.His areas of interest include Oral Epidemiology, Health Care System Analysis and Clinical Bioethics.Before joining Amrita, Dr. Chandrashekar worked as Professor in the Department of Community Dentistry, K. L. E. Institute of Dental Sciences Bangalore. He has several publications in national and international journals to his credit.

Dr. Venkat is a renowned Prosthodontist. He has undergone extensive implant training in Europe. His teaching skills are exceptional and makes everybody understand the subject easily. He pursued his research fellowship on ‘Short Term Research In Sleep Apnea’ fromOkayama University, Japan, as ‘Foreign Visiting Researcher’ Department of Oral Rehabilitation & Regenerative Medicine, Okayama University, Aug-Sep 2010. He was selected as the ‘Nominee of India Division International Association of Dental Research (India Division) to receive the research award and grant from Japanese Association of Dental Research (JADR) for the research topic ‘Management of Obstructive Sleep Apnea’. He also received the award at 62nd annual meeting of JADR on 4th-5th Dec 2014, Osaka, Japan.
SYMPOSIUM3: DEVELOPING INFRASTRUCTURE FOR A NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DENTAL AND CRANIOFACIAL RESEARCH
Topic:" National Research Resource Initiative- the urgent need”
Dr. Ramachandran trained in Neurology with Prof. Krishnamurhty Srinivas and subsequently through the Paul Hamlyn Fellowship at the prestigious National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, London. Field Of interest includes the science of Indian culture especially with regards to neurological diseases and its prevention; and the efficacy of medicines in the Indian population. He is currently the Principal Investigator for a prestigious epidemiology study named (CHURNS) Chennai Urban Rural Neuro-epidemiology Survey, that involves understanding the incidence of neurological disorders in the community. He has lectured widely on a variety of topics related to Neurology, that provides insight into the science of Ayurveda and Indian culture and has delivered the prestigious Prof. K. V Thiruvengadam Endowment Oration on the wisdom of the ancient science.

Dr AR Pradeep is a researcher par excellence who has the credit of having the highest number of citations in dental field in Asian region. He has a very impressive 2271 citations with a h index of 27 and i10index of 71 since 2012.His coreareas of research interest include GCF Biomarkers, Periodontal Regeneration, Periodontal Medicine and Local Drug Delivery.He is receipient of Einstein award America young scientist award and also iconic achiever award.
Topic: What is expected out of National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
Professor Suresh hold the unique distinction of being the first PhD degree holder in India in the field of Dentistry. His research interests include drug induced gingival overgrowth, stem cells, regenerative medicine and periodontal medicine. He has served on the Research Advisory Boards of Sri Ramachandra University, Stem cell Ethics committee ofSaveetha Dental College and Hospital. He is currently holding the key post in the Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell therapy. He holds the unique distinction of having received the Best Virtual Research Presentation (FIRST EVER ) Award in the Euro-Perio Conference held at Vienna, June 2012. Recently ,Dr .Suresh and his team isolated stem cells from human gingival and changed them to nerve cellsfor treating spinal cord injury in rats.
Topic:Feasibility Perspective of an Indian National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research
Dr Raghu Radhakrishnan, a senior oral pathologist and Deputy Director of research for health sciences at Manipal College of Dental Sciences, has been the recipient of the prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship, for his work on “Understanding the functional role of Retinoic Acid Receptor Beta2 in the development of oral cancer”. Dr. Radhakrishnan has developed a wide portfolio of skills in handling sensitive and high throughput techniques such as microarray and data analysis, real time PCR, flow cytometry, bisulfite based techniques such as bisulfite genomic sequencing, combined bisulfite restriction analysis, real time melting curve analysis, cloning, expression and purification proteins, cell culture and microbiology related experiments, lentiviral based gene delivery etc.

To his accomplishment, he has several International and National publications in various journals of repute. He has authored several books, of them, "The Textbook on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery," published by Elsevier.He has also delivered various orations including the prestigious Ginwala Oration of the Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the highly esteemed Dr R Ahmed Oration of the Indian Dental Association. He has bagged the coveted “Dr. Ginwallah Rolling Trophy” of the Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons of India twice and has been the runner up twice by winning the ‘Best Paper Award’ at the Annual conferences.
